Classics Worth Revisting
The Book That Keeps Following Us Around
The Master Key System by Charles F. Haanel isn’t new, but it is revered by many — and we’ve decided it’s time to read it.
Have you ever had that experience where something keeps showing up in your life so persistently that you can no longer ignore it?
That’s been happening to us lately with the book The Master Key System by Charles F. Haanel.
Despite being over a century old (it was first published in 1916!), this book has found its way into our world repeatedly over the past few months.
First, when we went to hear Mirela Sula — psychologist, author, journalist, and women’s rights activist — speak at Soho House. When reflecting on which personal development resource had the biggest impact on her life, she offered without hesitation: The Master Key System. As a lifelong book lover, we took note.
Then, more recently, we heard an entrepreneur speak about the importance of mindset. He described The Master Key System as one of the most powerful books he had ever read — one that had been recommended to him multiple times by people in Silicon Valley and that genuinely changed his life. So twice felt interesting. We took note again.
And third, while reading Dr Tara Swart’s book The Source recently, we noticed she also referenced The Master Key System as a book that had changed her life.
Three for three. Message received.
So we’ve decided it’s time to read it.
It’s more of a course than a traditional read (the books origin was indeed a course, created by the author) — similar in format to The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron. And if you do the exercises contained within each chapter properly — we believe it can take several months to truly read and complete. So it’s a read alongside another read for sure — and a self-development course in mastering your own mind.
We’ll report back later and let you know our thoughts! Or perhaps you can join us on the journey?

Man's Search For Meaning
The classic tribute to hope from the Holocaust, Viktor E Frankl
In 1942, just months after marrying his wife, Viktor Frankl and his family were sent, first to the Theresienstadt concentration camp, and then to Auschwitz.
A prominent Viennese psychiatrist before the war, Frankle was uniquely able to observe the way that he and other inmates coped with the experience of being in in the notorious concentration camp.
He noticed that it was those who comforted others and who gave away their last piece of bread who survived the longest - and who offered proof that everything can be taken away from us except the ability to choose our attitude in any given set of circumstances.
He noticed that the sort of person a prisoner became was the result of an inner decision and not of camp influences alone - only those who allowed their hold on their moral and spiritual selves to subside eventually fell victim to the camp's degenerating influence, while those who made a victory of those experiences turned them into an inner triumph.
Through his experiences, Frankl came to believe that man's deepest desire is to search for meaning and purpose. This outstanding and inspiring work offers us all a way to transcend suffering and find significance in the art of living.
